Tranny Tracks: A Look at Gender Variant Representation in Literature,
Friday, November 13th @ 1pm. SMSU 333
Today’s entertainment media is saturated with stereotypes of transgender and
gender variant people. Twig Deluje’ and Erin Malus are the minds behind Bare
Bones Press & Productions, a company devoted to demarginalizing gender
variant visibility within all forms of media, from books to film and beyond.
“Our mission is to provide a greater understanding of what the vast spectrum
of gender variance actually looks like, and then apply that to all media
forms,” says Deluje’. “We want everyone within the gender spectrum to feel
that their story is a valid and respected one.”
Deluje’ and Malus will illustrate how trans and gender variant
representation in literature has changed over time and where it stands
today. The workshop will conclude with a panel of experts in the fields of
film/television, music, visual art, and literature discussing where gender
variant representation stands in their fields and where they see things
going.
