Queer Resource Centers Monthly Membership Meetings-Every 2nd & 4th Thursday

To further ensure that the QRC is promoting an inclusive safe space here at Portland State University, and advocating for underrepresented sexual and gender communities, beginning Spring Term '08, we will be holding monthly membership meetings. These meetings will act as a forum where individuals have an opportunity to gather with others within our community and network by means of engaging in meaningful discussions fascilitated by knowledgeable parties and students.

Come join us every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, 4pm-6pm at the Queer Resource Center (SMSU 401).

  • May 8th: Love and Self Care Awareness, with guest speaker Roslyn Farrington. This workshop will offer the opprtunity to briefly explore one definition of love and self esteem. We will also explore practices that can help us to daily and conciously be more self loving and affirming. These practices will enhance all aspects of our lives. Roslyn has been a faculty member in PSU's Women's Studies Department since 2002. She holds a Master's Degree in Education, a B.A. in English and Certificates in Women's Studies and Black Studies. May 22nd: The QRC welcomes Joseph Sedillo from Cascade Aids Projects Men's Wellness Center to do an HIV 101 presentation. He will include discussions about the stigma, the sexual health risks, the importance of HIV testing and counseling and how it fosters behavior change, followed by a Q & A session. Attendees will be encouraged to return on Friday to get a FREE HIV test done with Outside in here at Portland State University. Where: SMSU 401, When: 4pm-6pm.

 

May 23rd: Free Rapid HIV testing and pre and post test counceling with OutsideIn, in partnership with CAP and Portland State Universities Queer Resource Center. Tests will be available on first come first served basis. Prom is also on Friday and would be a great chance to know your state before going out and shaking the night away! Where: SMSU 296, When: 9am-1pm.

 

 

May 23rd, 2008-Queer Prom at the QCenter (A Midsummers Nights Dream)!

Get out the fairy wings and shimmery eyeshadow! "A Midsummer Night's Dream,"a GLBTQ Prom organized by the Portland State University Queer Resource Center, will take place Friday, May 23rd from 8pm-12am at the PDX QCenter (Located at 69th SE Taylor Ave). Now in its 3rd year, this all-ages community dance will feature the stylings of DJ Camacho all night long. PDX QCenter will be transformed into a woodland wonderland where all the Faerie Kings and Queens can come out to play!

May 30th, 2008 - Lecture on Civil Rights in Italy, by Italian Filmmakers

    In association with The Italian Cultural Institute of San. Francisco, the Portland State University Queer Resource Center and Italian Studies Department present "Suddenly Last Winter," an evening with Gustav Hofer and Luca Ragazzi discussing their documentary "Improvvisamente l'inverno scorso," Italian culture, politics, and civil rights.

    This FREE event will be taking place at 5:30pm in Smith Memorial Student Union 296.

Fight Gender Oppression - Trans Activism Group

Focus: Education, Activism, and Socializing around issues of campus safety, SHAC, Insurance, etc.

Who: Transgender and gender-queer persons and allies

Gender Discussion Group

The Queer Resource Center is now offering a closed discussion group for transgender and gender-queer identified individuals. The Group will meet once a month to discuss issues that affect the community and self. Allied individuals wishing to show their support should contact Dylan (cmorgan@pdx.edu) about the Trans Activism Group. The Next Meeting(s) will be April 24th and May 22nd) and held at the Queer Resource Center @ 2pm.
