Or one of the following QRC staff members specifically:
Amy Romberg, Graduate Assistant-Development Coordinator
Amy is a second year Masters in Social Work student who is passionate about social change and dahlias. She is from the NorthWest and has tried out many cities along the west coast, but Portland is her favorite so far. She is very excited to be at the QRC this year, as she loves cake and queers, and has heard both those things are in abundance here. When not being studious she can be found at the dog park trying to teach her dog manners, on her porch with a book or perhaps a friend. Amy is a committed coffee drinker, and is learning how to make things grow. She loves the word femme, and incidentally is not afraid of mud, spiders or bacon.
Lupita Mendez, Graduate Assistant-Volunteer Coordinator
Lupita is a second year MSW student with a focus on community based practice. She enjoys baking, then more baking, and then decorating cupcakes. She also enjoys a good conversation about evolution, social justice, anti-racism, queer-issues, or even Harry Potter. And also Glitter. She hopes that you will consider becoming a QRC Volunteer and donating your precious time and skills in exchange for the invaluable experience and the warm, fuzzy feeling that comes with doing something good for the community.
Zena Piccolo, Student Life Coordinator
Zena likes a cookie, then maybe a piece of candy. A slice of cake? Thank you very much! She has half a dozen knitting projects she is working on, most of them involving icky crylic yarn she found at Goodwill. Between working at the Queer Resource Center and the Women's Resource Center, and taking classes toward the never ending degree, she spends a lot of time at Portland State University.
Nathan Keep, Information & Communications Coordinator
Nathan will be continuing into his second year with the Queer Resource Center as Information and Communications Coordinator, and with the distinct goal of balancing all of the university demands for this coming year. When Nathan is not working on some endless project, or collaborating with volunteers to increase the visiblity of the center at Portland State University - you'll probably still find him lounging on the couch before a meeting or class. Heavily involved in various university committees and independent projects and student organizations, Nathan is balancing demands with finishing up his B.S. in Sociology this year. Having already been accepted to the Graduate School of Social Work program, nathan hopes to continue to be a part of the Queer Resource Center throughout his Masters degree education. It's his goal to continue to increase the visibility of the center, as well as getting other students to be involved on planning committees, marketing, etc.
Phil Garry, Center Coordinator
Phil Garry is a Montana native, but has lived in Oregon now for eleven years. He attended Arts and Communication Magnet academy from the 8th grade to his graduation in 2007. Phil majored in dance, and recieved a dance endorsement along with his highschool diploma. He entered as a freshman in Winter term of 2008, and became a volunteer of the QRC upon his arrival. Beginning Fall 2008, Phil became our new Center Coordinator of the Queer Resource Center while being an activist for the Queer Community since the age of 15, and has been an active member of the Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center (SMYRC) for the past three years-doing bridge 13 and benifit shows. Phil hopes to one day teach dance to the new generation of Queer Youth as a form of stress-relief.
Erin Reid, Health & Wellness Coordinator
Erin is a post-bac student at PSU hailing from all over the East coast. After studying anthropology as an undergrad, she decided to move all the way to Portland to pursue her interest in social medicine and health equity. When not tending to the neverending homework that comes with being pre-med [aka wading knee-deep in organic chemistry], Erin can be found volunteering at Outside In, dreaming of Portland summer, researching health disparities and harm reduction [particularly within the queer community], and dancing her booty off. Erin loves talking to people about any and all of their health interests and knows lots about local resources for anything from low-cost STI testing to queer-positive places to buy sex toys--so feel free to contact her or swing by the QRC with any questions or concerns!.
