The Mission of the Queer Resource Center:
The Portland State University Queer Resource Center strives to provide an inclusive safe space in advocating for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning students, staff, faculty and their allies. Our Mission is to serve the PSU and surrounding communities through both outreach education and social programing that promotes awareness.
Our Goals:
To provide and advocate a safe space for GLBTQ students and allies to meet and socialize on campus.
To educate the University population about sexual and gender diversity through forums, social events and other programming in order to eliminate ignorance and homophobia within PSU.
To provide alternative cultural and social events to enhance the campus experience of students.
To actively address oppression and discrimination in all forms, including those made on the basis of sexual orientation or preference, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, class, age, and abilities; as well as any other forms of oppression.
Our office, located in Smith Memorial Student Union room 401, has a resource hub where individuals can gather information on topics ranging from personal heath and safety to local agencies serving the GLBTQ community in the greater Portland Metro area, a lounge where students can hang out, study, and get to know one another, and a library with books on a wide variety of GLBTQ related topics available for checkout.
Our Safe Space Policy:
At either the Queer Resource Center, or events sponsored by the QRC, we ask that participants be respectful of the full diversity of gay, lesbian, bisexual. and transgender people, including the following: differences in gender, race, religion, ethnicity, class, age, and abilities; as well as all beliefs and affiliations.
